This Seer fish fry is the easiest dish I have EVER made. You
just have to mix the spices, toss the fish in it, wait for thirty minutes and
fry it. And the tasty fish is ready to eat.
My husband Sankar is a die-hard fan of fish. During my initial cooking
days, all my fish dishes were nothing short of a disaster. But he patiently
believed that someday I will excel in cooking fishes. And here I am today. After
all, practice makes woman perfect. Whenever I make this fish fry, Hamsini, my youngest daughter keeps roaming around the kitchen like a kitten, waiting to have a
bite. I must confess that the step by step pictures and the final pictures were
taken on different days, thanks to my little kitten.
Fish is among the healthiest food on the planet. It is rich
in proteins, vitamin d and omega-3 fatty acids which are incredibly healthy for
our body and brain. So don't hesitate to include fish in your diet. I always prepare this fish fry along with fish curry. This
also goes well with rasam rice. Make this fish fry to spice up your lunch.
Prep time: 30 min| Cooking time: 10 min
Ingredients:
Seer fish( vanjiram)- 8 pcs( approximately half kg)
Chilly powder- 1 and 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder-1 and 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Salt- as needed
Oil- 2tblsp
Method:
1. Mix chilly powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt together without adding water. It should be dry powder only.
2. Take the fish pieces one by one and flip it over the mixed spice powder. No need to add water. The moisture on the fish is enough for the masala to stick on it. Marinate for minimum 30 min.
3. Add oil to a tawa and when it becomes hot, add the fish pieces. Keep it on medium flame for five minutes and flip over. Fry the other side too.
4. Once the pieces are fried well, remove from tawa. Repeat the process and fry the rest of the pieces.
5. Yummy fish fry is ready.
Notes:
· Increase the quantity of pepper powder and chilly powder, if you prefer a spicier version. If you feel that spice is not enough after frying, don't worry. you can sprinkle pepper powder on top of it and slightly toast it on tawa.
· You can also use the same masala for pomfret fish fry also.
