Chocolate
modak! Wait what? C-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e modak? That’s right! Two of the best things
together! Ganesh Chathurthi means fun, celebration and food, especially modaks
or as we call it, kozhukattais. Sweet and savoury, this, according to me, is
the best part of the celebration.
Preparation time: 2 to 3 mins| Cooking time: 15 minsCourse: Dessert| Cuisine: Indian
Ingredients:
Grated unsweetened
kova- 1 cup
Chocolate chips-
1/3 cup
Sugar- 2 tblsp
Cardamom powder-
1/8 tsp
Oil or ghee
(for greasing the moulds)- as required
Method:
1. Heat a pan and keep it on low flame.
Add the grated kova. Keep stirring it on low flame for a minute or two.
2. When the kova starts melting, add 2
tblsp of sugar and mix it well, for a minute.
3. Now add the choco chips. Keep it on
low flame and keep stirring. The choco chips will start melting. Keep stirring
it continuously for a minute or two.
4. Add cardamom powder. Keep stirring
on low flame until the mixture starts leaving the edges of the kadai. Do not
overcook as the modak (kozhukattai) will turn out dense.
5. Transfer the mixture to a plate. Allow
it to cool and make small balls out of it.
6. Grease the mould with ghee or oil. Place
a small ball in the modak (kozhukattai) mould. Gently unmould and transfer the
chocolate modak (kozhukattai) to a greased plate. Repeat the same with the rest
of the mixture.
7. It can be chilled and served later
too.
