It’s Christmas eve! If you want to enjoy the festive
cake, without bothering about your health, then this amazing buckwheat
chocolate cake is exactly what you need! A no maida, no sugar cake, which
tastes just like any other chocolate cake- but healthier! The cake is a dense,
moist treat of buckwheat flour and chocolate, with brown sugar to sweeten it. The
chocolate shavings make this the perfect treat for chocolate lovers! Honestly,
there wasn’t much difference between this cake and cakes with maida and white
sugar. And when you top it with whipped cream and strawberries, it becomes the
perfect Christmas cake! Wishing all of you a merry Christmas!
Preparation time: 10 minutes| Cooking time: 40 to 50 minutes
Ingredients:
Buckwheat flour- 1 cup
Corn flour- 2 tblsp
Baking powder- 1 tsp
Baking soda- ¼ tsp
Salt- a pinch
Cocoa powder- 5 tblsp
Grated chocolate- 3 tblsp
Brown sugar- 1 cup
Butter- 3 tblsp
Eggs- 4
For frosting:
whipping cream- ½ cup
Powdered sugar- 2 tblsp
Strawberries for decorating.
Method:
1.
Sieve buckwheat flour, baking powder,
baking soda, salt and cocoa powder together. Keep it aside.
2.
In a large container, add brown sugar
and butter. Blend it for around 5 minutes.
3.
Add the eggs one by one to the sugar
and butter mixture and beat it till it becomes fluffy.
4.
Add the grated chocolate to the wet
mixture and mix it well.
5.
Then gradually start adding the buckwheat
to this wet mixture and mix everything together.
6.
Grease a cake pan with butter or oil.
Pour the cake mixture into the pan.
7.
Place the cake pan in an idly cooker
and cover it with a plate to avoid any water getting into it.
8.
Steam cook for 40 minutes. After 40
minutes, insert a toothpick into the cake to check if it is cooked fully. If needed,
steam cook for another 10 to 15 minutes or until the cake is fully done.
9.
Once the cake is fully cooked, remove
the pan from the idly cooker and let it cool completely. Then transfer it to a
plate.
10. Whip the whipping cream and powdered
sugar together. Apply on cake and top with strawberries.
Note:
1.
I did not have buckwheat flour handy,
so I grinded whole buckwheat into fine powder and sieved it.

apply on the cake and decorate
with fresh strawberries
