Last post in the first lunch box series (finally)! I would
like to thank my friend Lakshmi Vishwanath for her constant support and whole
hearted help, throughout this series, be it in the form of recipes or sometimes
even with ingredients. So in today’s lunch combo, we have Phool Makhana for
short break and Cabbage rice for Long Break.
Short Break- Phool Makhana (Lotus Seeds)
My kids are madly in love with phool makhana. It is super
healthy, easy and takes hardly any time to make. Phool makhana may sound like
an exotic ingredient to many, but is easily available in the stores. Perfect
for short breaks, it can also be given as an afterschool snack. The recipe is
as given below
Heat ghee to a khadai
and add phool makhana.
Fry until crispy.
Add chilie powder, turmeric powder,
chat masala and salt.
Stir until the masala combines
evenly and switch off
Long Break- Cabbage rice
Cabbage rice is a very healthy variety rice. It is an ideal lunch box recipe. Super easy to make during the morning rush. It is mildly spicy and has a great flavor. Though it is called cabbage rice, you can also add other vegetables, like carrot and green peas.
